About Czech cities
Located approximately 30 km west of Prague, Karlštejn is a medieval gothic castle built by Holy Roman emperor Charles IV. A national historic site, the fortress houses the Czech crown jewels. Karlstejn is one of the most frequented castles in the Czech Republic and hosts many weddings and various cultural events. Each August, Castle Night (Hradozamecka noc) is held in the courtyard. It features a rich music program and a showing of the film musical "Night at the Karlstejn Castle" (Noc na Karlštejně).
Another popular tourist destination is the Konopiste castle, which is near the city of Benesov, about 50km from Prague. Its beautiful surroundings include Lake Konopiste and the largest golf resort in the Czech Republic. The castle is “guarded” by a bear who lives in the castle fosse near the entrance to the castle. Another attraction, especially for kids, is the princess ball with a knights tournament that features duels and jousting.
Plzen is an important industrial and cultural city situated about 90 km from Prague. It has both great historical significance and rich architecture. One of the most famous buildings is the neo-Renaissance Faculty of Law building on the campus of Western Bohemian University. The city hosts a large Skoda presence. However, the most famous product from Pilsen is the beer, which has been brewed there since the beginnings of the 14th century.
Situated in the western part of Bohemia, about 120 km from Prague, the internationally-known spa city of Karlovy Vary has a rich history. You can choose from a wide variety of hotels, guest houses, apartments and other accommodations. The spa is famous not only for the treatment of digestive and muscular systems diseases, but also for its various sport activities, which include golf and tennis. The International Film Festival takes places there every year and attracts many visitors.
Nestled in the Krkonose Mountains, the mountain resort of Harrachov has a modern ski complex that attracts winter sport lovers from around the world. You will also find a beer spa and a bobsleigh track there. The rich nightlife includes many restaurants options and a bowling club. The resorts accommodations feature many hotels, guest houses, cottages and apartments.
Another, even more famous mountain resort is Spindleruv Mlyn, which is situated on the ridges of the Krkonose Mountains. It is a part of the National Park of Krkonose. Everyone can find opportunities to enjoy their stay there, whether they come to play sports, sight-see, or rest and relax. Skiers will find 25 kilometers of perfectly adapted slopes. You can get there by car from Prague in less then two hours.
Ceske Budejovice is one of the biggest cities in the South Bohemian Region. Noteworthy attractions include the South Bohemian Museum and the Budvar museum of Ceske Budejovice. This city is the home of the world famous Budejovicky Budvar beer, which is exported to more than 50 countries of the world. Not far from Ceske Budejovice is one of the most beautiful Czech castles, Hluboka nad Vltavou, where a newly-constructed bicycle path begins.
Mariánské lázně is the second largest spa in Bohemia, immediately after Karlovy Vary. It is surrounded by a rich forest landscape, the source of many of the spas natural healing resources. Visitors a large variety of accommodations perfect for your healing, romantic, or weekend stay. In the center of the city there are many cafés, restaurants and beautiful parks.
Cesky Krumlov is one of the most visited Czech cities by tourists, for good reason. Because of its old historical center, the city was placed on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1992. It is situated in southern Bohemia, not more than 200 km from Prague. You can find accommodation there for acceptable prices, especially in the numerous guest houses. The main attraction for tourists is usually the state castle Cesky Krumlov. Each year, the city hosts a well-known international festival of music and the Rallye Cesky Krumlov car race.
Brno is situated in the eastern part of the Czech Republic. Although it is the countrys second largest city, visitors will find traditional Moravian folklore there. Above the city there is a large castle complex Spilberk. In the Brno Exhibition Grounds, many international exhibitions and trade fairs take place every year. A great attraction is also the MOTO GP race which takes place on the Masaryk Circuit in Brno and draws racing enthusiasts and casual fans alike.
